Onkel Sam is a quirky piece of theatre where a Norwegian-Pakistani man ponders the state of the world and discovers he himself is part of this crooked world. The Norwegian-Pakistani man, Farooq, is apparently a completely normal family man with a job, a car and a house. But lately he has struggled with far too many profound questions about life. Neither his family, close friends nor colleagues can understand or help him find answers to profound questions about life. He finds solace in the literature of Pakistan’s most “rock n roll”- author, Saadat Hassan Manto (1912-1955). The only problem is the texts by Manto intensify the thought process and Farooq meets even more remarkable and sarcastic questions about profoundly serious and politically relevant themes. He therefore travels to Manto’s grave in the graveyard Miani Sahib in the culture town Lahore in Pakistan in hope that late Mr Manto will help him to a greater understanding.
