Monsemann is a little boy who lives in what appears to be a completely normal setting with Mum and Dad who are very generous with jelly and custard. They have, like most parents, ideas and expectations about how they want Monsemann to be. The play shows a dysfunctional mother, father, child relationship that points to a wider perspective and shows what can happen when totally everyday power structures in a so called normal family take over. Monsemann is an absurd comedy with dark undertones. Thematically it swings between the disturbing and the humorous.
